KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Cal State San Marcos is back in the No. 1 position, knocking Campbellsville (Ky.) from the perch in the 2014 - 15 NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. In the fifth regular-season edition, the Cougars landed 246 total points and 5-of-10 first-place votes. Campbellsville was the No. 1-ranked team for the previous three-straight polls.
The Cougars held the No. 1 spot in the first regular-season installment back on Dec. 9, 2014. Today marks the ninth all-time No. 1 ranking in Cal State San Marcos history. The Cougars picked up win No. 20 – tying No. 2 Pikeville (Ky.) for the fastest team to reach 20 wins – with a 100-91 defeat of Northern New Mexico on Jan. 24. Cal State San Marcos has a break until Feb. 4 when it faces The Master's (Calif.) prior to a tilt against No. 14 Concordia (Calif.) on Feb. 7.
KANSAS CITY, MO. – For the first time in school history, Georgia Gwinnett will begin a men's tennis season as the top-ranked school in the 2015 NAIA Men's Tennis Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. The defending national champion Grizzlies earned 343 points and all 13 first-place votes.
Georgia Gwinnett won its first national title in its first year of NAIA postseason eligibility in 2014, and capped a dream season with a perfect 21-0 record. The Grizzlies, who had 15 victories over ranked opponents from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA last season, closed their year with a 5-1 win over top-seeded Embry-Riddle (Fla.) in the national championship final on May 17, 2014.
