Indiana University-Northwest's Danielle Zandstra and Darrius Davis have earned top honors in the Association of Independent Institutions Conference this week as Zandstra has been named the Female Athlete of the Week, while Davis has been named the Male Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 8-14.
Zandstra, a 6-foot-2 senior center from Crete, Ill., turned in three strong performances including a triple-double and a double-double in a 2-1 week for the Redhawks. She opened the week with 12 points, seven blocks, seven assists and five rebounds in a win over Indiana University Kokomo and then became the third person in program history to record a triple-double a loss to Robert Morris. In the contest, Zandstra tallied 17 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and had 11 blocks to go along with four assists and two steals.
West Virginia University Tech opens the 2015 season ranked No. 10 in the 2014-15 NAIA Women's Swimming and Diving Coaches' Poll released Thursday.
Oklahoma Baptist and SCAD Savannah (Ga.) open the year tied for the top spot, while Cumberlands (Ky.) is at No. 3, Brenau (Ga.) at No. 4 and Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) at No. 5.
