A senior on the Night Hawks, Stovall was one of the top hitters in the NAIA in 2009, posting the second highest batting average in the entire NAIA (.487). Stovall also led the NAIA in slugging percentage (1.032), was second in total bases per game (3.744) and fourth in homeruns per game (.465). Thomas finished the season with a 30-13 overall record, however were ousted in two straight games at the recent A.I.I. Championships.

Puhl, in his second season at the helm of UHV, guided the Jaguars to the inaugural A.I.I. Championship with a 6-2 win in the championship finale over Lambuth (TN). Six players on Houston-Victoria were selected to the 2009 A.I.I. All-Conference team after UHV posted a 33-15 overall record heading into the NAIA Baseball National Championships.
