COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican women's volleyball team completed the season sweep of West Liberty State University on Wednesday with a 3-0 victory in West Liberty, West Virginia. The Panthers played the Hilltoppers in a home-and-home series with ODU winning both matches by the score of 3-0.
For the second straight game the Panthers out-dueled the Hilltoppers for a straight set victory. ODU snuck away with a 26-24 first game victory. The Panthers continued to dominate the court in the next two games to close out the match by the scores of 25-19 and 25-16.
Ohio Dominican outside hitter Rachel Billing (Jr. /Anna, OH) once again led the attack with double digit kills. Billings finished the match with 10 kills. Cassie Schroeder (Sr. /Columbus Grove, OH) and Elyse Mongillo (Jr. /Columbiana, OH) directed the offense to near perfection as they both posted 17 assists, leading to a hitting percentage of over .250. Defensive specialist Heather Kunze (Jr. /Cincinnati, OH) led the defense with 17 digs and freshman middle hitter Kristy Birkemeier (Columbus Grove, OH) recorded a team high seven blocks.
ODU will return to action this weekend as they travel to Lansing, Michigan for the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament. The Panthers will open the weekend versus the University of Illinois at Springfield on Friday, October 16th at 1:30 p.m.
