COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican women's volleyball team extended their current win streak to five games on Tuesday evening in Richmond, Indiana as they trounced Indiana University - East in three games. With the win ODU improves their overall record to 17-13 on the year.
After a back and fourth battle in game one Indiana - East looked as though they would take an early advantage sitting on a game point, but the Panthers battled back to earn a solid 28-26 victory. Ohio Dominican again rallied late in games two and three to earn the straight set victory with wins of 25-21 and 25-20.
Ohio Dominican was led by a balanced offensive attack and another solid defensive performance. Outside hitters Summer Hale (Jr. /Galena, OH) and Rachel Billing (Jr. /Anna, OH) led the team with nine kills apiece. The Panthers combined for a total of 43 kills on the night.
Defensively, the Panthers combined for 68 digs and 15 blocks. The Panthers defense was again solid with five players recording double digit digs, with Billing leading the way recording 14 digs. Freshman middle blocker Kristy Birkemeier (Columbus Grove, OH) continues to have an outstanding freshman campaign after recording a team high six blocks versus the Red Wolves. Birkemeier leads the team with a total of 99 blocks this season.
Ohio Dominican will look to make it six in a row as they complete a home-and-home match with their future Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) counterpartLake ErieCollege. The Panthers and Storm will tangle for the second time this season on Saturday, October 24th in Painesville, Ohio. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
