The host Warner University Royals (9-12) defeated the Thomas University Night Hawks (15-6), 7-4, in the championship game of the Warner University tournament this afternoon in Lake Wales, FL.
Warner scored six unearned runs in the first and TU was unable to come all the way back. Freshman pitcher Skyler Sopotnick (1-2) took the tough loss lasting only 0.2 of an inning and surrendering six unearned runs on only two hits while walking four. Senior designated hitter Randy Adams (1-4, R, 2RBI, HR) hit a home run and senior right fielder Drew Johnson (3-4, 2R, RBI) contributed three hits on the day. The loss in the championship game marks the third straight season that the Night Hawks finish second at the tournament.
TU will look to get back on it's winning ways on Tuesday March 9 when they travel to Jacksonville, FL to face Edward Waters College in a double header beginning at 1PM.
