SFU's Leah Riske has been named the A.I.I. Softball Player of the Year
A.I.I. Release - On the eve of the 2010 Association of Independent Institutions Softball Championships, the A.I.I. on Wednesday announced their 2010 All-Conference Softball Team and award winners. A.I.I. Tournament top seed Cal State San Marcos scored two big victories, with head coach Dave Williams earning the 2010 A.I.I. Coach of the Year award, while Williams' ace Brenna Sandberg was named the 2010 A.I.I. Pitcher of the Year. Simon Fraser University shortstop Leah Riske was named the 2010 A.I.I. Player of the Year. SFU and A.I.I. Tournament host Houston-Victoria led the way with four All-Conference selections each.
 

Williams earned the Coach of the Year honors after leading his team to a 35-13 overall record entering the A.I.I. Tournament and the Cougars are currently fifth in the last NAIA Top-25 poll of the season. Williams' ace Sandberg has also had an outstanding season, posting an A.I.I. best ERA of 1.30 on the season, and is second in the NAIA with 33 wins. Riske leads the Clan in RBI, registering 31 in only 29 games fro SFU, and is hitting .345 on the year with six homeruns.


The 2010 A.I.I. Softball Conference Championship is hosted by the University of Houston-Victoria, and begins on Thursday, May 6. The A.I.I. Champion will earn an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championships, scheduled for May 20-26, in Decatur, Alabama.
