VICTORIA, Texas - Top-seeded Cal State-San Marcos and third-seeded University of Houston-Victoria reached the championship semifinals of the Association of Independent Institutions softball championships on Thursday.

Cal State-San Marcos advanced behind a no-hitter by Brenna Sandberg in a 4-0 win over Ohio Dominican, while UHV reached Friday's semifinal with wins over LSU-Alexandria and second-seeded Simon Fraser.

Action Friday pits LSUA against Ohio Dominican in an 11 a.m. loser's bracket game, while Simon Fraser meet the University of British Columbia in the othe loser's bracket contest at 1:30 p.m.

Cal State-San Marcos and UHV meet at 4 p.m., with the winner advancing to Saturday's championship game. The two loser bracket winner will finish play on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Ohio Dominican 10, British Columbia 3

The Panthers used a five-run sixth inning to blow open a close game to win the opener of the A.I.I. Tournament.

All but one Ohio Dominican player picked up a hit in the game as the Panthers jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first inning and never trailed.

Pitchers Erica Sutter and Shana Etter combined to go 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run to pace the offense. Jennifer Baker went 3-for-4 with two runs and Erin Sutter was 2-for-5 with two runs.

Jessica Barclay tripled to lead off the first for British Columbia and scored on a Alyssa Derksen fielder's choice ground out. The thunderbirds added a pair of runs in the fifth on a two-run double by Derksen.

UHV 4, LSU-Alexandria 2

Allison Hinton belted a two-run home run and pitcher Baylea Wagener held the Generals in check until the seventh inning to pick up a win in Game 2.

The Jaguars grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with an unearned run and extended the lead 3-0 on Hinton's line shot over the left field fence in the third that also scored Claire McGee, who had walked.

Hinton would drive home McGee again in the fourth with a double to left center.

Wagener had a one-hit shutout through six innings before the thunderbirds manage to plate two runs against her with a sacrifice fly by Amy Leonard and an RBI single by Brittany Trahan.

Cal State-San Marcos 4, Ohio Dominican 0

Brenna Sandberg was close to perfect for the Cougars tossing a no-hitter and striking out five in a shutout win.

Sandberg issued two walks and had a throwing error, but the Panthers never managed to get a runner past second.

The Cougars gave Sandberg all the runs she needed in the first on an RBI single by Alyssa Dronenburg.

The Cougars would add a pair of unearned runs in the fifth and another unearned run in the sixth.

UHV 3, Simon Fraser 1

Courtney Pettit blasted a third-inning three-run home run to lift UHV past second-seeded Simon Fraser and into the championship semifinals.

Simon Fraser took a 1-0 lead in the second with an unearned run.

UHV struck right back as Pettit lined a two-out shot to left scoring Izzy Glowney, who had reached on an error and Claire McGee, who had singled.
