Arizona Christian University's Sarah Beth Hock and Dakota State University's Matt Fideler have earned top honors in the Association of Independent Institutions this week as Hock has been named Female Athlete of the Week, while Fideler has been named the Male Athlete of the Week.
Hock, a 5-foot-10 freshman forward from Gilbert, Ariz., finished with a pair of double-doubles as the Firestorm swept a pair of A.I.I. conferences games from Northwestern New Mexico College. Hock knocked down 15 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds (14 defensive) in the first meeting. She came back to finish with 19 points and 14 rebounds in the next meeting as she collected her ninth double-double of the season. She also dished out a career-high eight assists in the contest. For the week, Hock averaged 17 points, 15.5 rebounds, five assists and three steals per game and hitting 62.5 percent of her shots from the field.
Fideler, a senior distance runner from Volga, S.D., qualified for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Meet after captured the 3,200 meters at the Dordt College Open. Fideler won the event with a time of 8 minutes, 44.45 seconds, nearly 20 seconds ahead of his closest competitor in the 21-runner field. It's the third time Fideler has qualified for the NAIA Track and Field Indoor Meet.
