The CSUSM women's cross team is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the NAIA.
The CSUSM women's cross team is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the NAIA.

California State-San Marcos and British Columbia continue to hold down the top two spots in the latest NAIA Women's Cross Country Coaches' Top 25 poll.

CSUSM, the defending national champion, received all 21 first-place votes for 591 points to hold down the top spot for the third consecutive poll. The Cougars finished 2011 as No. 1 and opened 2012 as the preseason No. 1 team.

British Columbia collected 572 points to remain at No. 2, while Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) was at No. 3 and the College of Idaho was No. 4. Carroll (Mont.) rounded out the top 5 at No. 5.

CSUSM and British Columbia are the top two ranked Association of Independent Institutions Conference teams, and are followed by Jamestown (N.D.) at No. 3, Ashford (Iowa) at No. 4 and Dakota State (S.D.) at No. 5 in the conference rankings.
