
Ashford University's Danielle Tombolato and Jamestown College's George Gauld have earned top honors in the Association of Independent Institutions this week as Tombolato has been named Female Athlete of the Week, while Gauld has been named the Male Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept 10-16.
Tombolato, a sophomore middle blocker from Berwyn, Ill., led the Saints to a 5-0 week and was named the AU Saints Invitational Tournament's Most Valuable Player. She hit .370 on the week as she recorded 62 kills and 29 blocks, along with nine digs. She posted a pair of 17 kills in five-set victories of No. 23 Bellevue and Clarke and aided Ashford's effort with 13 assisted blocks in the two games.
Gauld, a 5-foot-11 sophomore forward from Epsom, England, helped the undefeated Jimmies to a 2-0 week with wins over Dordt and Briar Cliff. He scored a pair of goals in each match. He now has five goals and an assist on the season for the 8-0 Jimmies
