Jamestown College's Sarah Becker and Valley City State University's Derek Elliott have earned top honors in the Association of Independent Institutions this week as Becker has been named Female Athlete of the Week, while Elliott has been named the Male Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept 24-30.
Becker, a 6-foot-1 junior middle blocker from Rochester, MN, guided Jamestown to a perfect 2-0 week with 3-0 sweeps over Valley City and Dakota Wesleyan in earning her second straight A.I.I. weekly honor. She finished with 23 kills and a 62.9 percent attack rate in the two matches. She also helped the Jimmies improve to 15-3 on the season with eight blocks.
Elliott, a 6-1, 211-pound junior running back from Valley City, N.D., was the Vikings main source of offense in a 39-28 loss to South Dakota School of Mines and Tech. Elliott rolled up 219 total yards of offense and scored three touchdowns for the Vikings. He rushed for 114yards on seven carries and two touchdowns, including an 80-yard TD run, and caught six passes for 105 yards and a touchdown.
