Mayville State University's Josette Glatt and Ashford University's Lucas Almeida have earned top honors in the Association of Independent Institutions this week as Glatt has been named Female Athlete of the Week, while Almeida has been named the Male Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 15-21.
Glatt, a sophomore right side hitter from Bismarck, N.D., paced the Comets to a 2-3 week as she recorded 63 kills with a .454 hitting percentage in the five matches. She had just 14 errors in 108 attempts. She also recorded 11 assists, eight digs and five blocks.
Almeida, a junior forward from Sao Paulo, Brazil, was Ashford main offensive weapon as he scored all three goals for the Saints in wins over No. 19 Hastings College and Association of Independent Conference foe Jamestown College. Almeida scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Hastings and then the Saints battle back from a goal down in the final seven minutes behind two goals from Almeida in a 2-1 win over Jamestown. The three goals ran Almeida's season total to nine.
