DeWell's Free Throw With 3.6 Seconds Remaining Seals the Victory for IUN

The Indiana University Northwest Lady RedHawks traveled to Chicago's South Side on Wednesday and defeated the Chicago State Lady Cougars 78-77 for the women's program's first-ever victory over an NCAA D-I opponent.

Listen to the game broadcast.

It was the women's 12th victory in a row this season and perhaps their most significant win of the year. It was certainly a noteworthy milestone for a successful program that appears to be at the top of its game as it competes for position in the upcoming A.I.I. Conference Tournament.

[Men's Basketball - D2] Vikings make history at Wesmen Classic

With a 90-58 victory over Brandon University (Brandon, Manitoba), the Valley City State University Vikings completed a historic three game run that earned them the championship of the University of Winnipeg Coca Cola Wesmen Classic Basketball Tournament. The Vikings became the first non-Canadian University to win the championship since 1968 and only the second American University to win the title.

The run did not come as easily as the score of the championship would indicate. Playing in Canada and by International rules, the Vikings had to play four quarters instead of two halves and with a 24 second shot clock, providing the Vikings with a quick learning curve to overcome. "The tournament in Winnipeg presents some unique challenges not only because of the quality of competition but also having to adjust to the International (FIBA) rules. The 24 second shot clock certainly changed the game for us and limited us with regard to some of the things we had been able to do offensively," said Vikings men's basketball coach Jeff Kaminsky. "I thought our players did a great job preparing for the different style of play that we saw."
